Coimbatore: Criminal lawyers in the city celebrated Pongal at the Court premises, ahead of the festival that is to be celebrated in two days' time.
Pongal, which is the most renowned festival of the Tamils is celebrated on the 1st of the Tamil month, 'Thai.' The Tamil population in the state prepare Pongal in mud pots and make an offering to the Sun god. It is also believed that offering the first harvest of the farmers to the lord will usher in a productive year for the farmers.
To celebrate Pongal, the Criminal Court Bar Association held celebrations at the Coimbatore Court premises which were decorated with sugarcanes.
The lawyers rejoiced and danced to traditional music and also prepared Pongal in the mud pot in worship to the deity with the traditional ‘Kulavai.’
The celebrations were attended by advocates and board members including the President of the Bar Association Vijayakumar, Secretary Krishnamurthy, Treasurer Gauthaman, Deputy Chairman Kannan, Joint Secretary Nirmala Devi and Kalaiyarasan.
