Coimbatore: A team under the leadership of District Forest Officer Ashok Kumar, removed roadside plastic debris and compostable debris, for up to two kilometres from the foothills of the Marudhamalai Subramania Swamy Temple in the Marudhamalai roundabout area of the Coimbatore Wildlife Sanctuary Division.
A team led by the District Forest Officer, a Divisional Assistant Conservator, a Forest Officer, 25 staff and a team of 10 sanitary workers from the Marudhamalai Hill Village have cleared about 200-kg of plastic debris in around 2-km radius. Devotees visiting the temple and shops near the temple, were made aware about the dangers of using plastic products.
It has also been advised to consult with the temple administration and prevent the use of plastic bags in shops located in the temple area. It may be recalled that, the last two days there was plastic waste like milk packets in the elephant dung lying in the area which created a controversy.
