The public and various organizations at the Pollachi Collector's Office continued to hold a protest for 8-hours demanding the arrest of those who attacked the Dalit youth in Anaimalai.
Coimbatore: Harihara Sudhakaran, a youth from Anaimalai Makkal Sakthi Nagar village near Pollachi, was working in the farm of Major Ramasamy in the same area. Reportedly, he was fired from work for some reason. He is said to have fallen in love with a woman, who worked in the same farm. The youth visited the farm to see the woman, a couple of days ago.
Following this, some people working in the farm tied up Harihara Sudhakar and hit him. Injured Harihara Sudhakar has been admitted to Vettaikaranpudur Government Hospital for treatment. Last morning, villagers and a section of representative from various organizations, staged a sit-in protest at the Pollachi Collectorate demanding the arrest of those who attacked the Dalit youth.
Authorities opposed the protest with all available police forces, special services and the army. At night, protesters lit torch lights on their cell phones and chanted slogans. Protesters have warned that if appropriate action is not taken against the attackers, the protest will continue and the Collector's office premises will be set on fire.
