Coimbatore: Police are conducting a serious investigation into the incident where Rs.30 lakh was seized from a youth travelling by a train headed toward Coimbatore.
The train arrived at Tirupur railway station last night on the way to Alappuzha from Kerala via Dhanbad via Coimbatore. The Railway Police Force and the Railway Security Force were also on patrol at the railway station at that time.
When the Railway Security Force engaged in a search and questioned a teenager who was sitting suspiciously on a box in the train, he began to answer contradictorily and hence the police searched his bag. Shockingly, Rs.30 lakh was found in the bag without any relevant documents. The RPF police took the youth to Coimbatore on the same train and handed him over to the Railway Police.
During the investigation, it was learned that the youth was Lal Singh Rao from Rajasthan who was travelling to Coimbatore by train from Chennai to buy gold jewellery. Police confiscated Rs.30 lakh from him and handed it over to the Income Tax authorities at the Coimbatore Race Course police station. An investigation is underway as to whether the confiscated money of Rs.30 lakh was 'hawala money.'
