Coimbatore: In Coimbatore, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a symbolic protest by placing a wreath on the road and paying last respects, demanding repair of the damaged road.
Heavy vehicles travelling from Gandhipuram to Thudiyalur have been diverted to Ganapathy and Maniyakarampalayam due to bridge construction work on the Coimbatore-Mettupalayam Road. As a result, the road from Maniyakarampalayam to Nanjagavundanputhur for a distance of 5-km is in a state of disrepair.
An innovative protest was held on behalf of the Democratic Youth Federation of India in the Nanjegavundanputhur area, demanding immediate repair of the damaged road.
Protestors brought garlands and flower rings and marched in procession to the sound of drum beats, and thus, symbolically paid homage to the ruined road by wearing garlands. They also raised slogans urging highway department and corporation officials to repair the road immediately. The protest, that resembled a funeral procession on a dilapidated road, that could cause major accidents and even death, caught the attention of motorists and the general public.
