Coimbatore: The roadside pushcart vegetable vendors have announced a reduction of 5 for the consumers, who carry their own bags while shopping for vegetables, as part of showing their solidarity for the TN CM’s ‘Meendum Manjapai’ scheme.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, MK Stalin launched the ‘Meendum Manjappai’ scheme recently.
To add to their support to the initiative, vendors who sell vegetables on the roadside in RS Puram and Flower Market areas have made the announcement of a discount of 5 for the buyers, who carry their own cloth bags.
The idea is well received by the customers.
Speaking on the new initiative, a dealer said, "The discount price is to encourage the use of cloth bags and to urge the public to avoid using plastic bags. The announcement is well received by customers. Thus, the number of customers visiting to purchase goods with cloth bags is increasing.”
He added that it is healthy to witness public carry cloth bags on their second visit, even if they carry a plastic bag for the first time.
