The Periyar Statue in front of the Thanthai Periyar Pagutharivu Padippagam in Vellalore area in Coimbatore was covered with a footwear garland and saffron powder on Sunday morning which deeply disturbed the sentiments of various parties.

In the wake of various parties across Tamil Nadu protesting against the deliberate vandalism, the Dravida Tamilar Katchi also protested in front of the Tirupur District Collectorate demanding the arrest and imprisonment of the vandals under the Goondas Act.
