The number of areas that are isolated in Coimbatore has increased to 26 and 32 medical teams are put in place to offer medical treatment at the door step. The incidence of covid-19 is rapidly increasing in the city, and the number of cases, which were below 100, a few days ago, has now crossed 400.
Prevention measures have been intensified on behalf of the district administration. Asymptomatic patients are being isolated in their homes. So far, 1,303 people have been isolated in their homes. 32 teams consisting of doctors, nurses and medical staff have been formed to visit their homes in person for surveillance and treatment.
A health department source stated, “The areas including Sulur, Madukkarai, Thudiyalur and Annur reported increased number of cases during the second wave and therefore these areas are currently being closely monitored. If a person is diagnosed with infection, everyone in contact with them is screened.”
The health official said that at present, 10,000 people are being screened per day in Coimbatore. The percentage of coronavirus outbreak which was 1% last week, is now at 3.1 %. The number of isolated areas in rural and city in Coimbatore has increased to 26.
He added that the entire area was shut down in case of infection diagnosed in the past. But now it is planned to close only the affected houses or some adjoining areas.
The new variant has been spreading rapidly, while the Delta variant infection is also found. He thus warned the public to be extra careful and always follow the covid-19 guidelines while stepping out of houses.
