The houses in old Valparai Estate regions were damaged due to fire on Saturday in which the residents lost their belongings, but fortunately none were hurt in the accident.
Valparai: Eight houses of the plantation workers in Valparai were damaged due to fire caused by wire shortage on Saturday.
Rajendran's house caught fire at about 10.45 pm last night in old Valparai estate area near Valparai due to power leakage. The inmates ran out of the house noticing fire and smoke, raising an alarm to douse the flames. The people could not put off the fire and the other nearby houses caught fire.
The fire spread to houses of eight persons including Rajendran, Nataraj, Dhanam, Suresh, Kanaka, Nanjan Ali, Nazimuthi, Mala Hussain and all the 22 occupants of the apartment survived without any injury. Police and fire brigade fought for about 2 hours to douse the flames. All the belongings of the homes were completely damaged, including cooking material, TV, cot, fridge washing machine, school certificates, Aadhaar cards etc.
On receiving this information, officials, rushed to the spot and consoled the 8 families. They also distributed items such as rice, dhal, cloth groceries and household items.
