Ration rice provided free of cost in Thamaraikulam and Nallattipalayam was bought from the public and being smuggled to Kerala. Police have seized a ton of ration rice and arrested two.
Coimbatore: The Food Smuggling and Prevention Unit received a tip-off that ration rice was being smuggled to Kerala through the Thamaraikulam area near Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore district.
Accordingly, the police who were secretly monitoring the road from Thamaraikulam area to No. 10 Muthur this morning, stopped and checked the Minidor auto which was passing by and found that there were bundles of ration rice in it.
Following this, Abilash (34) of Eliparai area in Palakkad district of Kerala who drove the vehicle and Sajith (27) of Kongamparai area were interrogated. It was revealed that ration rice provided free of cost at ration shops in areas including Thamaraikulam and Nallattipalayam was bought from the public and smuggled to Kerala.
Police have seized a ton of ration rice from 21 bundles and a Minidor Auto. Police have arrested two persons for smuggling rice and are investigating.
