They said the government should have issued a draft report on 30.07.2021, to the Valparai tea plantation workers stating that the basic salary of workers should be Rs.197.40, including Rs.228 famine allowance and the total minimum wage should be Rs.425.40.
However, the Tamil Nadu government did not issue a draft statement and in a way to urge the Tamil Nadu government to issue a draft statement without delay, with the support of some unions', an interim agreement was arrived against the minimum wage, urging plantation workers to pay the minimum wage of Rs.425.40.
The unions MDMK, INTUC, Puthiya Tamilagam, Manithaneya Tholil Sangam, CITU and Sangam Kongunadu PMS in Valparai protested, urging the government to implement steps to improve workers' livelihoods by providing minimum wages.
