Governor of Tamil Nadu inaugurates World Thirukkural Conference in Coimbatore. The resolution to recognize Thirukkural as a UNESCO world book was passed.
Coimbatore: Governor of Tamil Nadu, RN Ravi inaugurated the World Thirukkural Conference to be held in Coimbatore and released a book titled "Kalvettil Thirukkural 6".
At a function held at a private college here and Kural Malaisangam, the Governor of Tamil Nadu presented certificates to 10 students as the best Tamil student.
Former High Court Judge N. Kirupakaran of the Chennai High Court has been awarded the 'Kural Malai Perunithi Perumaganar Award’, Nalla G. Palanisamy of the KMCH Hospital, Coimbatore has been awarded the ‘Kural Mala Lifetime Achievement Award' and Kuralmalai 'Manuneethi Cholan' has been awarded by the Coimbatore Petition Trust. Chairman Manuneethi Manikkam and Kuralmalai presented the ‘Best Educator’ award to Manimegalai Mohan, Chairman, SSVM Educational Institution, Coimbatore.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor of Tamil Nadu RN Ravi said, "Our nation is a blessed land. It is said in Thirukural that one should lead a peaceful life. Every line in the thread says a lot of good things. If one truly understands and reads the seven words in each verse, one can attain the state of admiration in life. Thirukkural is the ladder that elevates our lives and guides us to follow good deeds to progress in life. Thirukkural is an example to the world."
In addition, three major resolutions were passed at the conference, namely, 1,330 Thirukural to be inscribed on the mountain, Thirukural Mountain to be inscribed on the mountain, Thirukural to be recognized by UNESCO as a world book, and Thirukural to be documented as a syllabus by the United Nations in all its member states.
The conference was attended by C. Subramaniam former Vice Chancellor of the Tamil University, poet Kavithasan, KPK Selvaraj President of the Tirupur Muthamil Sangam, K. Sundaraman Chief Executive Officer of Sri Krishna Educational Institutions Coimbatore and others who spoke on various topics about the superiority of Thirukural.
