Governor of Tamil Nadu RN Ravi pays homage to Indian Army personnel killed in Army helicopter crash at Coonoor Nanjappa Chattram
The Nilgiris: An Army helicopter heading towards the Wellington Army Base from the Coimbatore Sulur Air Force Base crashed into a tree in the Nanjappa Chattram area of Coonoor in the Nilgiris district on December 8 due to mist.
Fourteen people, including Indian Army chief Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika and army officers were killed in the helicopter crash. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu paid floral tributes to the fallen soldiers at the Wellington Army Center.
Following the helicopter crash, the Nanjappa Chattram area was brought under military control about a kilometre away and Air Force officers and army personnel collected all the parts of the crashed helicopter and took them to the Sulur Air Force Base.
As a result, the army withdrew from the Nanjappa Chattram area, which had been under military control for the 18 days.
