The Hindu Munnani leader Kadeswara Subramaniam in his statement has insisted that the ruling party should make arrangements for the pilgrims who walk to Murugan temple for ‘Thaipoosam’, to worship adhering to coronavirus guidelines.

The Hindu Munnani has insisted that the devotees who arrive at the Murugan temple for ‘Thaipoosam’, a ritual in which the Tamil deity Muruga is worshipped in the month of ‘Thai’ should be allowed to worship adhering to coronavirus guidelines, such as social distancing and other safety restrictions.
In a statement, the party President Kadeswara Subramaniam alleged that the Tamil Nadu Government has now closed the temples on weekends, imposed restrictions, but waited till the English New Year passed, although the center issued a circular on the 27th to impose restrictions.
He added, “The Hindu festival Bhogi and Pongal fall on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Devotees are now on a pilgrimage to the temple of Lord Muruga on the occasion of Thaipoosam by foot.”
“Thousands of devotees walk several hundred kilometres every day to offer darshan to the Lord. But, as soon as the government announced a ban on the opening of the temple for three days, devotees are subjected to various hardships.”
He demanded that the Government of Tamil Nadu should issue enough safety restrictions for devotees on ‘padayatra’ and allow them to worship. He also stated that proper guidelines should be announced to celebrate Pongal.
