Indigo airlines to operate only 3 flights a week.
Coimbatore: Even as air passengers were resuming their flying schedules from Coimbatore, especially enjoying the Coimbatore-Tirupati flight service which was scheduled to operate on all days, the Omicron outbreak followed by the 'Covid-19' third wave has hit the Coimbatore-Tirupati flight service.
Sources from 'Indigo' airlines said, "The direct flight service between Coimbatore-Tirupati started during December. ATR type small aircraft is being used for this service. The flight which has the capacity to accommodate 70 passengers was operated with a minimum of 50 passengers each time. But in recent days, owing to the 'Omicron' and 'Covid-19' third wave impact, the response for this service has been severely hit. Due to this, the flight service had to be cancelled often.
The flight service between Coimbatore-Tirupati had to be cancelled on Thursday. From the second week of January, the flight service will be further reduced and the service will be provided only for three days, every week," added the airline sources.
Aviation sources said, "We also know how difficult it is for airlines to operate flights when there is very poor response from passengers. Instead of cancelling or reducing their services, Indigo airlines at Coimbatore has the option to operate the Coimbatore-Hyderabad flight with one stop that is via Tirupati. The airlines management can check this option and take necessary action."
