Announcement of indefinite strike from 9th on behalf of Federation of Tirupur and Coimbatore District Weavers Associations.
Tirupur: A consultative meeting of the Federation of Tirupur and Coimbatore District Weavers' Associations was held at the Sultanpet Amman Gallery on Mangalam Road, Tirupur.
The meeting was chaired by Joint Committee Chairman Palanisamy and Velusamy and was attended by executives from 9 associations including Somanur, Palladam, Mangalam, Tekkalur and Avinashi.
At this meeting, he said, “The wage increase for turbines has not been fully available for 7 years since 2014. Many people have left the industry due to the high cost of living and are looking for other ways and are suffering from the loss of the assets accumulated by their ancestors without any way to repay the loan purchased for the industry.
After several rounds of negotiations demanding a new wage increase from 2020, the wage was increased from 20% for the Palladam variety to 23% for Somanur as announced by the District Collector and Labor Welfare Officers at the Coimbatore District Collectorate on 24.11.2021. But it was decided to go on an indefinite strike from Sunday the 9th, following a decision by the District Weavers' Associations to condemn the laxity of textile manufacturers in delaying its implementation. 2 lakh turbines are shut down and with this, Rs.60 crore production will be affected. 2 lakh workers have lost their jobs.”
