Coimbatore: The issue of pollution due to the brick kilns operating in Thadagam has become a major concern and the Green Tribunal will be hearing the case on January 6th.
The case relating to the kiln is being heard in the Green Tribunal today as the clash between the brick kilns in Coimbatore and those protesting against it has become a topic of debate. There were 197 brick kilns functioning in all the 5 Village Panchayat areas in the Thadagam area adjoining the Western Ghats in the Coimbatore district.
The oasis, which was functioning without the proper permission of the government, has created huge craters in the government, and patta lands at the foot of the hill. Air pollution, water pollution, and a large number of people have been affected. The Green Tribunal took a suo moto case and issued several orders and the kilns were sealed.
A committee headed by the Collector was constituted to review the violation. A report has also been submitted to the National Green Tribunal. The HC had already directed that it could appeal to the NATIONAL GREEN TRIBUNAL about the damages caused in brick kilns.
The case hearing is scheduled to take place in the Green Tribunal on January 6. An inquiry into the report issued by the district administration is scheduled to take place today.
