Coimbatore: The number of children affected with dengue fever in Coimbatore is now 32 amid the rising concerns of a third wave of the coronavirus likely to hit the country.

The number of active dengue cases in Coimbatore is 47. While rise in omicron infections is a cause of concern in Tamil Nadu, dengue fever is also raising gradually in Coimbatore and Tirupur in both children and adults. Forty seven people including 32 children are being treated at the intensive care unit in Coimbatore GH.

The cases are also on the rise in the suburbs. 1500 people are engaged in dengue mosquito control at the rate of 15 per ward in the city area. Medical camps are being conducted in dengue prone areas and awareness programmes are in progress. The authorities have asked the public to ensure that there is no water logging around the house. Health officials have appealed to the public to be alert in the event of dengue fever. Dengue has emerged as another major concern in this winter amid corona.

Dengue fever is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, which can breed easily and faster in clean waters, especially if there is water logging in public places and houses. This will ensure faster spread. Various measures are being taken on behalf of The Tamil Nadu Health Department to ensure that rain water does not stagnate that will create dengue mosquitoes.

However, it is noteworthy that dengue cases have increased suddenly this month in Coimbatore district.
