Issuing his warning on the alarming surge in the new omicron variant cases in the state, District Collector Sameeran stated that 2,730 beds are all equipped in the city for treatment.
Coimbatore: A total of 2,730 beds are ready in Coimbatore in the wake of a third wave of the coronavirus.
Issuing his warning on the alarming surge in the new omicron variant cases in the state, District Collector Sameeran stated that 2,730 beds are equipped in the city for treatment. 1,500 beds are ready at Coimbatore Government Hospital, 376 beds in ESI Hospital and 350 beds at the CODISSIA Hall are all in ready-to-work conditions for coronavirus affected patients.
Addressing a press conference here, the District Collector said that the spread of coronavirus is on the rise in TN and also in Coimbatore. Meanwhile, 11,080 vaccinations have been administered to 15 to 18-year-olds on the first day and 7,000 on the second day.
The number of cases reported per day climbed down to 80 due to the strenuous efforts on prevention which during the second wave was 4,800 per day in the city. The new Corona Regulations of the Government of Tamil Nadu will be followed from Thursday.
Night curfew will be implemented from 10 pm to 5 am starting 6th January and a full lockdown on Sundays. Strict action will be taken against those violating norms during curfew said the Collector.
“Coimbatore district has 2,730 beds ready. In particular, 1,500 beds are on standby at Coimbatore Government Hospital, 376 beds at ESI Hospital and 350 beds at CODISSIA. The oxygen plant with a capacity of 99 kilolitres is also kept ready. 10,000 persons can be screened in the City GH in one day.”
The Collector has requested public to cooperate in case we experience a third wave, by following the coronavirua guidelines like wearing face shields, disinfecting periodically and maintaining social distancing.
The elderly who are not vaccinated yet are more likely to be affected, and thus those who have not received their second jab are directed to get their jabs immediately.
Sameeran added that even if one experiences milder coronavirua symptoms, the person has to immediately isolate at home. A 32-person panel will be functioning at the control room to monitor the home isolated persons. Currently, only 10% of corona-affected people are being treated in hospital.
Precautionary measures are being taken as Chennai and adjoining districts report cases. Restrictions have been imposed on those travelling across the state border such as carrying the proof for corona test done 48 hours ago or have a certificate of two instalments of vaccination. Persons without these will be sent back.
Speaking of Jallikattu, the collector said that in the present situation, Jallikattu is unlikely to be held in Coimbatore on the 9th as the impact is high in Coimbatore Municipal Corporation areas and suburban areas like Sulur, Thudiyalur and Mettupalayam.
