Daily Covid tests in Coimbatore increases to 6000; Testing kits distributed to frontline workers

The Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner distributed Covid testing kits including thermometer and pulse Oximeter to frontline workers and stated that the number of screenings done per day has increased from 1300 to 6000.



Coimbatore: The number of Covid tests done on a daily basis has now increased to 6000 from 1300 per day, according to the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Raja Gopal Sunkara.



“With 1,300 Corona tests carried out per day in the city so far,6000 tests per day will be carried out starting Thursday,” stated the CCMC Commissioner. He distributed the Covid testing kits to frontline workers for door-to-door tests at an event in the VOC Grounds in Coimbatore. As many as 500 frontline workers were provided with equipment, including a thermometer and pulse Oximeter.



He then advised the frontline workers on how to carry out door-to-door tests. While briefing the media, the CCMC Commissioner said that 500 frontline workers had been provided with equipment suitable for door-to-door Covid testing across the Corporation. These frontline workers will go door-to-door, check for symptoms, body temperature and oxygen levels for people. 

"To counter the third wave, a control room has been set up at the R S Puram Corporation Auditorium. Covid test results will be given at the control room and a vehicle has been arranged to take the infected persons if any to the testing centre. Action will be taken to contact those who have been isolated at home to ascertain their condition," added the CCMC Commissioner.

In addition, 350 beds have been provided at the 'D' Hall in CODISSIA, along with the district administration and another 300 beds will be ready at Hall 'E' on Thursday. “Based on the confirmed Covid cases,15 doctors, 75 nurses and 10 medical technical staff will be appointed if confirmed infections are between 500 to 4000, per day. 

While 1300 tests have been done per day, action will be taken to check 6000 people per day from Thursday. Moreover, an order has been placed for necessary equipment for security measures,” reiterated the CCMC Commissioner.
