Incentives were given to those who are currently working in the medical and healthcare sectors. But the government did not provide Rs 15,000 as an incentive to the overhead tank operators, cleaners and sanitation workers.
Coimbatore: A protest on behalf of the Tirupur District Branch of the Tamil Nadu Rural Overhead Tank Operators, Cleaners and Sanitation Workers Association took place in front of the District Collector's Office. District Chairman S. Suresh presided. Participants said in all 12,624 village panchayats in Tamil Nadu, overhead tank operators, cleaners and sanitary workers are all working in the village panchayat.
They said, "Without our work the village panchayat administration would not be able to function. We stood on the field and worked with a sense of commitment to protect people without fear of death by carrying out essential tasks such as distributing drinking water, cleaning the streets, spraying bleaching powder and disinfecting the areas affected by the coronavirus infection. Considering our position in this regard, the government realized the nature of the work and announced that Rs. 15,000 incentives would be given to front field workers.”
