Coimbatore: The District Monitoring Officer for Covid-19, Darez Ahamed briefed the media stating that wards have been prepped up in Government and ESI Hospitals to treat Covid-19 in Coimbatore district.
The Coimbatore District Monitoring Officer was appointed for the prevention of Covid-19 in the State by the Government of Tamil Nadu. He addressed a press conference at the District Collectorate in Coimbatore. “A study was carried out on the precautionary measures in Coimbatore on the outbreak of the Omicron variant. Various facilities including beds have been provided in the treatment centers," stated Darez Ahamed.
Special treatment wards have been re-established at the CODISSIA campus and the District Monitoring Officer, Darez Ahamed inspected the CODISSIA treatment centers on Wednesday. Covid treatment wards have been spruced up to be on standby at CODISSIA, ESI Hospital and Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
"All preventive measures are underway to control the expected Omicron wave in Coimbatore. The RT-PCR test samples are to be sent to the National Institute of Virology testing center to confirm Omicron infection and necessary arrangements have been made to treat in case of the delay in test results.
Preventive measures have been intensified in the District as Omicron’s transmission rate is reportedly much higher across a large population area, although the virus is less potent based on information already available in countries with Omicron transmission. Steps have been taken to set up intensified Corona Treatment Centres at 14 places in the suburbs of Coimbatore.
This will provide opportunities for uniform treatment in urban and suburban areas. Orders would be issued on additional restrictions in view of the prevalence of infection," he further added.
