Coimbatore: The Save NTC Association staged a protest at the South Taluk Office seeking re-operation of NTC Mills and provision of 50 percent salary for the last three months.

The NTC mills across India have been closed due to Covid curfew and remain non-functional till now. The workers also allege that 50 per cent of the wages paid to the employees have not been properly paid for the past three months. The Save NTC Mill movement has been formed on behalf of the Federation of Trade Unions working in 23 NTC mills across the country.

A protest was held on behalf of this organisation in front of the Coimbatore South Taluk Office.

Union leaders from states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal raised slogans demanding immediate opening of NTC mills and abandonment of privatisation efforts.

Talking to newspersons here, All India President Sachin Agar said, "The Centre has no intention of operating NTC Mills and the government should take steps to operate the units in the interests of workers who are losing their livelihood. If the government fails to withdraw the privatisation decisions and does not operate the mills, a demonstration will be staged at the Prime Minister Modi's residence.”

They have stated that a sit-in protest will be staged at the mills and houses with black flags after the Coimbatore MP P R Natarajan hoists the national flag on Republic Day to press the demands.
