Tirupur: The differently-abled staged a stand-in protest at the Tirupur District Collectorate accusing the welfare officers of ill-treating them while arriving to obtain their Identity Cards.
The Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently-abled and Protection Disabled persons staged the protest putting forth a number of demands at the District Collector’s Office in Tirupur on Tuesday. They also alleged that the welfare officers ill-treated the differently-abled arriving for ID cards by treating them with contempt and disrespect. The neurologist was accused of aggressive behaviour while issuing medical certificates.
The protesters also demanded that a grievance meeting of the differently-abled persons should be held every two months under the chairmanship of the RTO.
The situation became chaotic when the police tried to stop the agitators who stormed the Collectorate to press for their demands.
