CCMC Commissioner steps up vigil, constant COVID-19 monitoring in Covai; warns of penalty over violation of guidelines

The CCMC Commissioner who attended the consultative meeting at the Corporation Auditorium in RS Puram, on COVID-19 prevention measures has stated that the surveillance will be intensified in the city to avoid infection.


Coimbatore: The city corporation health department has intensified surveillance against the coronavirus in Coimbatore, against the backdrop of speedy spread of omicron variant in the state and country. Health inspectors have been instructed to monitor the public on wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.

A consultative meeting at the Corporation Auditorium in RS Puram, West Zone, Coimbatore was held on Monday, on COVID-19 prevention measures. The Commissioner and Special Officer of the Corporation, Raja Gopal Sunkara, chaired the meeting in which, the traders, health inspectors, and medical officers participated.



The Commissioner stated, “Monitoring has been intensified in the city on non-proliferation of COVID-19 infection as per the orders of the Chief Minister. It is essential that the public is administered with the two doses of vaccination.”

Further, the commissioner added that the shop owners, traders must ensure that the customers to maintain government safety measures such as wearing masks, social gap, and have been directed to use disinfect. The shopkeepers should place a sanitizer at the doorstep.

The Commissioner has warned of penalties for the shops violating COVID-19 guidelines. Similarly, health inspectors are directed to keep a close watch on individuals, businesses, and shops that do not follow COVID-19 prevention measures.

“Coronavirus prevention operations will be intensified in places such as shopping malls, theatres, and markets.” The Commissioner said that all traders and the public should extend full cooperation to the preventive measures taken by the Government.”

The meeting was attended by deputy commissioner of corporation M. Sharmila, BST Welfare officer Satish Kumar, doctors, regional health officers, restaurants, hostel owner, vegetable market association, clothes shops, and managers from the jewellery sector.
