Prayers held at Palamalai temple in Coimbatore

The New Year was celebrated on 1st January with Trikala Poojas with Ganapathi Homam, Mrityunjaya Homam and Kali Puja in association with Mata Amritananadamayi Math, Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: Palamalai Ranganathar Temple is one of the important Hill Temple of South India Dedicated to Lord Vishnu in Coimbatore and believed to exist for thousands of years with historical importance of being one of the places where Saint Ramanajur of the Vaishnavite Sect is believed to have taken refuge approximately 1,000 years ago.

The temple is set amongst the forests of the Palamalai Hills and is one of the only hill temples with a chariot for Lord Vishnu other than Tirupati. The deity is very powerful and is also believed to be linked with well being and prosperity and strongly believed to bless childless couples.

Important festivals celebrated are Tamil New Year of Chithrakani, English New Year, Vaikunta Ekadashi with 9-day grand opening of the Swarga Vasal (Northern door, believed to leading to heaven), Chithra Pournami Theru (chariot festival), Pongal, Hanuman Jayanthi, month-long poojas during purattasi month with special annadhanam on all the 5-saturdays and during margazhi months with early morning bhajans.

The temple is famous for its daily annadhanam’s for Its devotees feeding them every single day of the year, and which runs to tens of thousands on important festival days and is believed to be the stomach portion of the three temples in a straight line with the head portion being Melmudi, the body with stomach being Palamalai and with the patham or the foot being represented by Karamadai Temple.

The New Year was celebrated on 1st January with Trikala Poojas with Ganapathi Homam, Mrityunjaya Homam and Kali Puja in association with Mata Amritananadamayi Math, Coimbatore, Bhramasthanam under “Brahamacharini Sarvaamrita Chaithanya’ under the theme ‘Loka Samastha Sugino Bhavanthu’ for the ‘Well Being of our Entire World’ inclusive of for our armed personnel who cleaned the temple completely and took part in the evening rituals with representation from every state and religion.
