Pollachi: Margazhi Maha Utsavam, the seasonal concert held during the Tamil month Margazhi was held in Pollachi on Sunday on behalf of Pollachi Sangeetha Sabha.
The commencement of Tamil Month Margazhi has opened gates for the music and dance festivals. The concerts which were virtual last season due to coronavirus spread, are now held both virtual and live, with proper Covid-19 guidelines.
Margazhi Maha Utsavam was conducted on behalf of the Pollachi Sangeetha Sabha, on a note to emphasize traditional music, its preservation and to encourage musicians.
A large number of Carnatic Musicians from various parts of Coimbatore, Tirupur, and Erode participated. Conventional music instruments such as Veena, Mridangam, Violin were used in the concerts and little girls performed Carnatic songs.
The music festival was held to emphasize the importance of traditional music and to showcase the talents of all artists and encourage artists.
The Government is also assisting such Sabha programmes in metro cities like Chennai.
A request has been made that the government should help in conducting sabhas in small towns like Pollachi, initiates steps to set up welfare boards for such musicians and save traditional musical instruments like mridangam, veena, etc., and bring them to the next generation.
