With the rapid rise in Omicron cases in India, the Government of India has recommended the vaccination for men and women between the ages of 15 and 18. Boosters for the frontline workers, vaccines for people from 15 to 18 years of age will be administered from the 3rd of January, the Prime Minister announced.
The vaccines for 15-18-year-olds will commence from January 10 and 22,800 people in the age group of 15 to 18 years will be vaccinated in Coimbatore in the first phase.
Coimbatore Corporation health officials stated, “The Government of Tamil Nadu has ordered vaccination of 15 to 18-year-olds. We are currently making arrangements for the same. In Coimbatore district, we are planning to immunize 22, 800 government school students in the first phase.”
The process will begin on the 3rd of January and vaccinations will be administered to the teenagers in government schools directly within the Corporation. Gradually, camps will be conducted in government and private schools in Coimbatore Corporation in phases and the corporation is planning to immunize the students directly in the school itself.
The booking for the same has started from 1st of January. Booking can be done directly online through the Cowin app. Immunization can be done by producing class X identity card. “Parents should take advantage of this rare opportunity to vaccinate their children with corona and protect them from corona and omicron infections.”
There are 33-lakh 20,000 people between the age of 15 and 18 in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Health Minister M Subramanian had said that children would be vaccinated directly in schools.
