Coimbatore: Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC) is an NGO set up in 2006, with a vision to be a catalyst for overall development of the city.

This involves creating awareness amongst its citizens and initiating action for economic and environmentally sustainable development of Coimbatore Region. RAAC also is involved in pursuing vigorously the infrastructure requirements of the city with both the State and Central governments. In addition to this, the non-profit organization is in the process of identifying and promoting new projects, physical as well as social required for the economic activities and for the well-being of the residents of the Coimbatore region.

As a part of awareness creation RAAC has taken up this project with guidance from our District Collector Dr. G. S. Sameeran. RAAC undertook the reconnaissance survey along with the CSR team of Robert Bosch for the observation home at Coimbatore. The Juvenile Delinquents Observation Home at Lakshmi Mills Junction was started in 1938 by the British Government. The home is under the care of the District Child Protection Office as well as the Department of Social Defense. RAAC along with Robert Bosch CSR will partner to bring about a radical transformation here. The initial phase of this project will revolve around improving the infrastructure facilities.

RAAC has received the CSR funding for the sum of Rs. 12,25,000/- (Twelve Lakhs Twenty Five thousand). RAAC will develop the infrastructure facilities. It would also attempt to fulfil the vision of District Collector Dr Sameeran by employing teachers for conducting music classes, origami classes and board games to unleash the hidden talents of the inmates. Audio-visual equipment would also be installed to show them world cinema, children’s classics would be screened and world cinema experts would explain to them the moral of the films. Such activities would keep them busy and shape them into responsible citizens.
