Coimbatore: The Coimbatore SP Selvanagarathinam has warned of charging persons under IPC sections if caught for over speeding and Driving under influence while celebrating New Year.
The Tamil Nadu Government has issued orders for a ban on New Year Celebrations in the state to prevent the spread of coronavirus. People are advised to celebrate in their homes.
Security is intensified in all parts of Coimbatore. Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Selvanagarathinam reviewed the security works being carried out at the Koundampalayam check post on Mettupalayam Road on Friday.
He also advised passing motorists to follow all traffic rules and follow proper coronavirus guidelines while travelling in buses.
Later, addressing a press conference, he said, "People should cooperate and celebrate the New Year safely. Everyone should adhere to the norms of the government and 1,300 police personnel have been deployed to carry out New Year security operations in the district.” Patrolling will also be intensified to monitor the illegal sale of alcohol and persons driving under the influence of alcohol.
He added, “A case will be registered under IPC section against those for over speeding and if people below 18-years of age operate two-wheelers, their parents will be booked. In defiance of the government's warning, private hotels holding celebration parties will also be cracked down on, and their licenses cancelled.”
