The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly conducted an inspection in Coimbatore on Tuesday and assured that a safe transport facility will be arranged for the tribal college goers.
Coimbatore: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly conducted an inspection in Coimbatore on Tuesday and assured that a safe transport facility will be arranged for the tribal college goers.
Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Public Accounts Committee conducted a review in Coimbatore on Tuesday. The study was presided over by K. Selvaperunthagai, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Public Accounts Committee.
The committee consists of 11 MLAs including Arun Kumar, Gandhirajan, Dr Saraswathi, Sinthanai Selvan, Sudarshanam, Prakash, Poondi Kalaivanan, Raja Muthu, Velmurugan and Zawahirullah.
The committee conducted an inspection at the Sengupathy tribal village at 10.30 a.m. They further reviewed the quality of the houses constructed for the tribe, issues regarding drinking water and listened to their grievances with regard to elephant invasion.
The locals requested for generation of new employment opportunities and also setting up Roserope fences to prevent elephants trespassing into residential area to which the committee assured of taking the demands into account. The committee also stated that steps will be taken to supply ration good through mobile vehicles.
Following this, inspections were held at the Anna University in Somayampalayam, Periyanaickenpalayam Panchayat Union, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University on Lawley Road, the newly constructed Women’s hostel at R. S. Puram and the Government Hospital.
Selvaperunthagai addressing the reporters stated that the tribals lamented on taking a 4-km walk to get ration supplies and so requested distribution of door step through mobile vehicles due to the fear of wild animals. The Committee will review the matter and take action.
He then stated, “A solar rope fencing to prevent elephant invasion and steps to protect public from the wild animals was also requested. Action will be taken to provide security to the college students by the forest department so that they can travel safely. The Chief Minister launched a scheme in Tiruttani to provide funds to the tribals, all those funds should reach this village.”
Subsequently, the team attended a consultative meeting at the district collector's office meeting hall.
