Valparai: The forest department carried out the removal of the weed, ‘Montana Himisingpolio’ in Manampalli, Valparai forest ranges that were disrupting the growth of other flora.
Headed by Ganesan, Deputy Director, Pollachi Division, Forest Department Officer Manikandan, the process of clearing and destroying the weed plants were carried out. The college students from the Ratnam Arts and Science College, NGP College of Arts and science were also involved in the process along with the forest officers.
The forest officials stated that, “The Montana himisingpolio' is a weed plant’s invasive growth has disrupted the natural plants completely and the food chain for herbivores and the wild animals is subsequently disturbed impacting the natural environment. About a ton of flowers and its seeds were collected and destroyed in a scientific manner to prevent the spread of seeds from those weeds.”
