In 2016, Ravi Prakash, who decided to repay the loan, strangled his aunt Arukani, who was alone, and stole the 7-sovereign piece of jewellery which he mortgaged. Anaimalai police arrested Ravi Prakash in 2018, 2 years after the incident. Ravi Prakash was caught by the police while recovering the stolen jewellery, which was mortgaged in the bank. As the case was being heard in the Coimbatore Blast Special Court, Judge Balu sentenced Ravi Prakash to double life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 15,000.
