The Chennai Postal Team won the Badminton tournament which was held last weekend to create awareness on Badminton among rural youth and to uplift the sport.
Pollachi: The Chennai Postal Team won the All India Badminton tournament which was hosted last weekend to create awareness on Badminton among rural youth and to uplift the sport.
Pollachi Sai Badminton Committee, NGM College and Sevalayam trust together hosted the matches at venue Nachimuthu Mahalingam College Ground, Palakkad Road on the 25th and 26th of December.
As many as 12 teams including Southern Railways, Tamil Nadu Postal Team, IFC Chennai and SRM College participated from various districts including Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy Vellore, and Mangalore. The teams participated in knock-out games and out of these four teams progressed into the super league stage through quarter and semi-finals.
The Chennai Postal team faced the Mangalore Alvas team in the final match and bagged the trophy. With a score of 2-0 the final match left spectators in the edge of their seat and it was a real thriller.
The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and the runners-up, Mangalore Alvas team was awarded Rs 25,000 and the winning trophies.
The competition was hosted to create awareness among rural youth about badminton, the competition coordinators said.
