IRCS AND CDWA to host a fund-raising musical evening with Shankar Mahadevan and Drums Sivamani.

Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and Coimbatore District Welfare Association (CDWA) have joined hands to host a fund-raising musical evening called 'Tarangi' at the Hindustan College Grounds. Musician and playback singer, Shankar Mahadevan and 'Drums' Sivamani will be participating in this musical evening scheduled between 6 pm to 9 pm of 12th January, 2017.

This show will also feature actor Karthi and VJ Bhavana. Funds from this show will be used for the setting up of a modern blood bank 'Dana' under the auspices of IRCS Coimbatore and ‘'Adaravu’, a senior citizen's day-care centre to be developed by CDWA.

Entry to 'Tarangi', the musical evening for a cause is by donor pass only, that are available from rupees 250 onwards, in multiple locations in Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Mettupalayam. Donor passes can be purchased online from www.bookmyshow.com.

Involving an investment of 1.5 to 2 crores each, the project envisages these facilities to be state-of-the-art yet cost efficient and affordable, hence making them accessible to all. IRCS was established in 1935 in Coimbatore by Chandrakanthi Govindarajulu. It is currently managed by a socially sensitive team of office bearers under the stewardship of Dr. Nandani Rangaswamy. Acknowledged widely for its social initiative 'Project DEAF', Detection of Early Deafness and Prevention of Future Dumbness in children, this project has had a huge impact on several beneficiaries.

CDWA was established in the year 1993 and has built and donated a building for the mentally challenged children in Rotary Metro Matriculation School in Mettupalayam in 1996. CDWA has also established a senior citizen's home in Mathipalayam in which it houses about 35 destitute elders. We are told that CDWA is working towards setting up its day-care centre for the elderly in Kavundampalayam.

T. S Mohan Shankar, while addressing the press briefed about the project of IRCS and CDWA. “The blood bank project 'Dana' by IRCS will be a charitable initiative and not a commercial one. The trust will provide blood to the needy at a reasonable cost. Now-a-days in many places, people are charged double or triple after understanding their urgency for blood requirements. Sure, this project will help to overcome such problems.” he said.

“The project 'Adaravu’ will be one of its kind unique day-care centre exclusively for senior citizens. The day-care centre will accommodate nearly 100 members who will be admitted after running a thorough background check. The home will be spread across 25 cents at Kavundampalayam with comprehensive medical facilities, food along with state-of-the-art technology. The factor that makes this centre a unique one is that the senior citizens will be engaged throughout the day with various sessions and activities organized for them.”

“As senior citizens are mostly haunted by loneliness, this day care centre will offer them to mingle with people of their age group. The activities we have planned for them will help them keep busy and fit. The admission fees too will be kept very nominal for this day care centre. Both the blood bank ‘Dana’ and day care centre ‘Adaravu’ will be built on 25 cents of land each. The land for both these projects at Kavundamapalayam has been allocated by government.”

Dr. J. G .Shanmuganathan, Vice Chairman of CDWA (chairman of Ganga Hospital), T. S. Mohan Shankar Vice Chairman of CDWA (Managing Partner Shankar Associate), P. M. Murali Vice President and treasurer of IRCS, Kumuda Palanisamy Vice President IRCS, Dr. Nandini Rangasamy Chairperson IRCS and CDWA (Chairperson GRG institutions) were present for the press meet.
