A headmistress of a Government Tribal Residential Middle School (GTRMS) at Kunjur near Palamalai in Coimbatore has been suspended following allegations of beating a Class V student. A video of the injured student and photographs of students cleaning the school toilet have been widely circulated on social media.
Coimbatore:. The Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department has suspended Krishnapriya, headmistress of a tribal residential school near Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore, following allegations that she beat a Class V student with a stick.
Around 43 students are residing at the Government Tribal Residential Middle School (GTRMS) located at Kunjur near Palamalai in Nayakkanpalayam panchayat of Coimbatore district. Krishnapriya and five teachers work at the school.
According to the allegations, the Class V student was beaten with a stick by Krishnapriya about a month ago, resulting in an injury. When the student's parents subsequently questioned her, she reportedly told them that the incident had occurred unintentionally.
Following the allegations, members of the Child Welfare Committee conducted an inquiry and submitted a report to the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department. Based on the inquiry, Krishnapriya, who had earlier been placed on compulsory leave, has now been suspended.
Denying the allegations, Krishnapriya said the evidence being circulated was fabricated, particularly the photographs showing students cleaning the school toilet. She said she had no knowledge of when or how the photographs were taken and alleged that several people, including some of her colleagues at the school, did not like her and could be involved in making the allegations.
While she initially said that she had not beaten the student harshly, she later denied having beaten the student at all. When asked about the injury sustained by the student, Krishnapriya said she had no idea how it occurred and maintained that she was not involved in the incident.
She also denied the allegation that non-vegetarian food was not being served to the students, saying chicken and mutton had been served twice in accordance with the prescribed rules. Krishnapriya further said she personally paid from her own funds to engage a cooking assistant and a sanitary worker to clean the bathrooms at the school.
