Relatives of a woman whose newborn died right after delivery staged a protest at a private hospital in Pollachi alleging negligence on part of doctors.

Coimbatore: The atmosphere in the premises of a private hospital in Pollachi became chaotic when relatives of a woman staged a protest after the baby reportedly died right after delivery owing to neurological complications.

Sivasankari and Krishnaraja, a couple from Kinathukadavu were looking forward to being parents soon, with Sivasankari under prenatal care at a private hospital in Pollachi since the beginning of her pregnancy. Sivasankari gave birth to a baby girl on Sunday. However, the newborn’s brain nerve was reportedly affected and doctors suggested that the mother and infant be sent to Coimbatore for immediate care.

At a private hospital in Coimbatore, doctors examined the infant and suggested that the baby be rushed to Coimbatore Government Hospital. At GH, doctors declared that the infant was brought dead, leaving the parents and their kin heartbroken.

The members of the family accused the doctors at the Pollachi private hospital of negligence and alleged that the woman was discharged unconscious from the hospital. Tension prevailed at the Pollachi hospital premises even as family members continued their protest after which police had to intervene to avoid conflict between the kin and hospital staff.
