People of the area demanded that Dharapuram Assembly constituency MLA and Adi Dravidar and Minister of Tribal Affairs Kayalvizhi Selvaraj should study the problem of the people of the area and find a permanent solution by holding talks with the authorities. Residents in the area said they would hand over ration cards and hold black flag protests in homes if no solution was found.
Tirupur: In Tirupur district Dharapuram 1st ward Vetri Nagar area, the public engaged in protest by planting saplings on the road demanding repair of the road and construction of a canal.
Due to the continuous rains for the last 20 days in the areas around Dharapuram, rain water has infiltrated the houses in the areas under the Nanjiyampalayam panchayat.
The affected people were engaged in the protest in the 1st Ward Vetri Nagar area demanding repair of roads in their areas and construction of adequate canals. Residents of the area say, there are more than 84 flats in the Vetri Nagar area. The nearest government residential colony to the area is located in areas including Iraichi Masthar Nagar. It is home to more than 1,500 people.
Due to the heavy rains, the road used by the people is muddy. As a result, students going to school on this road, the general public going to get ration items, the sick and the farmers going for agricultural work are facing various difficulties. Therefore, the locals have demanded to construct the road and also have demanded that the Vetri Nagar dirt road under the Nanjiyampalayam panchayat should be converted into a tar road and a proper canal facility should be set up.
Also, a nearby rainwater stream in the area has been occupied by a private individual. The stream was filled with rainwater and rainwater continued to flood the streets.
