Pesticide Labooratory's Assistant Director states that testing of pesticides aids better farming.
Coimbatore: The pesticide laboratory in Coimbatore has been beneficial for a huge number of farmers to avail medicines and pesticides produced after a complete quality check.
Shemila Jayanthi, Assistant Director Pesticide Laboratory, TNAU stated, “The Pesticide Laboratory in Coimbatore under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu plays an important role in ensuring the quality of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, nematodes and crop growth catalysts. These qualified medicines help farmers in enhancing their farming practices.
The chemical and physical properties of pesticide samples obtained from the coding centers functioning in Erode and Theni districts are studied with a special code. The number of toxins in pesticide, alkaline acidity, moisture, particle size, etc., is tested. Following that, a quality inspection report is sent by the Indian Certification Corporation with the label of the quality sample. These labels also mention if any differences occur in the stipulated chemical composition.
Further, the temperature of pesticides are detected and safely operated, by ensuring that the pesticides are not inflammable while stored in open outlets. Moreover, only licensed retailers sell these pesticides which ensures the trust factor much more,” she further added.
