With a predicted third-wave around the corner and the outbreak of Nipah virus in Kerala, Coimbatore comes under radar.
Coimbatore: The Government of Tamil Nadu has extended lockdown restrictions that are already in place until October 31. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu announced the extension ahead of the impending Covid-19 third wave that was predicted to arrive in September and October.
Tamil Nadu reported nearly 36,000 cases as of May. Rigorous efforts by the Government curbed the cases and brought down the muber of active cases to about 1600. Positive cases continue to be comparatively high in districts like Coimbatore.However, the outbreak of Nipah in Kerala and the impending third wave of Covid-19 has put Coimbatore under the radar since Coimbatore district shares borders with the state of Kerala.
The TN Government has restricted Kerala buses from entering TN, and the NIDM Department of the Union Government has advised continuing with regular vaccination camps. Public gathering and religious processions will continue to be banned in TN as they are super spreaders of the virus.
Essential shops and the working sector will operate only with necessary protocols. Weddings are allowed with only 50 members in attendance. Further, during the birth anniversaries of legendary freedom fighters and veteran politicians, the District Collector along with 5 members of the family and 5 authorized politicians alone are allowed to participate in the events that pay homage to these leaders.
Remaining restrictions will continue in Tamil Nadu as per the previous orders.
The restrictions include:
1.Placement of hand sanitizers, temperature checks a must in shops.
2.Employees and customers must wear facemasks and follow social distancing.
3.Shop owners shall not utilize air conditioning during working hours.
4.Customers should wait in queues adhering to marked social distancing rules.
5.Patients tested positive and their contacts should be identified and provided immediate treatment, provide vaccinations (Test-Track-Treat-Vaccination-Covid19-Appropriate Behaviour)
6.Shut down residential areas of patients tested positive and conduct Micro-Level restriction
Further, District Corporations should follow the below protocols in the restricted areas:
1.Essentials and Medical facilities should be provided.
2.Door-to-Door checking must be done.
School and college students should be protected from Covid-19 infections and must be supported psychologically. Educational institutions, parents and educational officers should maintain safety measures on the premises. Temperature checks, Covid tests must be conducted every day and students should be brought for classes on a rotational basis.
Public are requested to observe festivals inside their homes and avoid public gatherings like processions to avoid the spread of Covid and only step out of the houses for anything essential.
