TNAU bags second place in Pan India Green Clean Campus Award for State and Central Agri Varsities
Coimbatore: In the Green and Clean Campus award contest that was notified by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research under the National Higher Education Project (NAHEP) during October 2020 for state and central agricultural universities in India, the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore participated and bagged the second place among the state and central universities in India.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 8 lakhs which can be spent on greenery and cleaning activities of the campus within the approved framework of the environmental sustainability plan of Institutional Development Plan – Detailed Project Report (IDP-DPR) under the NAHEP and Swachh Bharat Mission of the Government of India. In a statement, the varsity informed that the award will be issued by the Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, during the forthcoming ICAR and State Agricultural Universities Vice-Chancellors meeting.
The Green and Clean Campus award is aimed to assess the involvement of the Universities in turning around wasteful inefficiency and using conventional sources of energy for its daily power needs, correct disposal handling, purchase of environment-friendly supplies and effective recycling programme. The award application was assessed based on the plantation area of the campus, in-campus waste management practices, water conservation practices, energy saving practices and courses, projects, seminars and workshop on environmental concern organized in the campus.
