A tree inside the SP office premises suddenly uprooted and fell on the shed where people were waiting at a shed in the registration office.
Coimbatore: The District Registration Office is right next to the Coimbatore District Collectorate and the District Superintendent of Police office.
Public who had come to the registration office were sitting in chairs under the tin-roofed shelter at the SP office premises. The tin shed collapsed as the tree inside the premises swayed heavily due to the wind and came crashing down on to the shed. Five people were grievously injured in the incident, even as people in the premises ran helter skelter.
Two women and three men who were waiting for registration were seriously injured. People in the SP office premises rushed to rescue those trapped inside the shed. 108 ambulances were immediately pressed into service and the Fire Department was notified.
The fire department officials are presently involved in clearing the tree. The incident has caused a stir in the area.
