68th SIEMA General Meeting held in Coimbatore; K V Karthik continues as President

Coimbatore district to manufacture pump sets in the ODOP scheme

Coimbatore: The 68th general meeting of SIEMA was held at the Race Course office in Coimbatore on Wednesday.

K V Karthik, Managing Director, Deccan Industries took charge as the Association President once again. Vignesh of LN Pumps, Mithun Ramadoss of Mahendra Pumps and Senthil Kumar, Founder of Super Tech Industries were appointed as Vice Presidents.

K V Karthik briefed the media saying, "Under the One District One Product (ODOP) Scheme of the Tamil Nadu Government, the Coimbatore District has been selected to manufacture pumps. I extend my thanks on behalf of SIEMA. The 150 districts selected will manufacture one product each. The Government has stated that it will aid in the creation of necessary infrastructure facilities.

For the economic phase that turned during the pandemic, and the increased demand for pump sets in the international market, this plan shall change the front of pump set manufacturing. Also, Coimbatore district will emerge as a major pump set manufacturing hub. Steps shall be taken to establish a laboratory for the international standard certificate, the CB marking. Presently, there are no laboratories in India. Indian producers send the goods to China for testing and certification.

Several common facility centres shall be established. Efforts will be made to sell the finished products directly in the international market through this consortium which will be functioning under SIMA. The continuing rise in raw material prices is a cause for concern. The Government should take steps to control it. Export cluster for global sale will be established,” he added.

The Association members stated that this scheme will also help reduce the cost of raw materials caused due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The meeting was attended by executives of various industry bodies including CODISSIA with former leaders of the Association also present.
