Karumbukadai area continues to languish under official and political apathy: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind petitions District Collector

In a letter to the Coimbatore Collector, a set of demands made by JIH


Coimbatore: In the Minorities Welfare Consultation Meeting held on the 2nd of September, the Jamaat-e-Islam Hind, Coimbatore division posed a set of requests to District Collector Sameeran.

The demands raised

1.The Karumbukadai locality is lacking proper Banks to carry on the tasks of the region. Request to start a bank at the earliest in the Karumbukadai region, Coimbatore.

2.Upgrade the government primary school to higher secondary school. Children in that area belong to a normal family, who cannot afford for rich, private schools.

3.Despite three private schools and one government school, the Karumbukadai area does not have a proper library. Request to open a library that benefits the students.

4.There are no parks built in the Karumbukadai locality. Government should take steps to build a children’s park in the area.

5.Request to open a PHC and Labour ward

6.Bus facilities for students of the areas Kuniyamuthur, Karumbukadai, Madukkarai, Podanur

7.Removal of encroachments in the area between Karumbukadai-Saramedu and Mini Bus facility from Karumbukadai to Nanjundapuram

8.Basic amenities like Drinking water taps, Sewage facilities in Kuniyamuthur, NP Iteri Road and Podanur

9.Coimbatore is one of the cities where the Islamic population is huge in number and women in the families opt for education. Facilities to enhance the education of Muslim Girls in the area.

10.The death of Sasikumar was followed by riots in Coimbatore. Muslim institutions were the biggest victims of the riots. No compensation has been paid from the government so far and no direct inquiries or comforts have been provided from the government. Therefore, we urge the Coimbatore District Government Administration to intervene in the matter immediately and take appropriate action to pay due compensation.

11.Proper actions should be taken on those who are actually involved in the murder of Sasikumar and not cause troubles to the lives of innocents.

12.Provide spaces for Muslims to perform prayers in the Government and Private institutions

13.Easy and faster sanction of scholarships for Muslim Students

14.Equal treatment and faster sanction of loans in banks for Muslim community small scale entrepreneurs

15.The post of Town Qazi in Coimbatore district has been vacant for a long time. The Qazi takes care of and provides solutions to internal issues in the Muslim community. Actions should be taken to appoint the Town Qazi immediately. We also request all Muslim organizations and Jamaats in the Coimbatore district to be included as members of the Consultative Committee for the selection of Qazi.

16.There are difficulties in constructing new places of worship for Muslims in the Coimbatore district. Permission is not granted. Furthermore, the restoration or reconstruction of active places of worship is not permitted. Burial sites are also denied access. The minorities are doubtful whether the district administration is adapting to the pressures of some religious organizations. There are also threats in areas where Muslims live in small numbers.'

The Jamaat-e-Islamic Hind presented the petition to the district collector Sameeran and requested immediate attendance on the demands.
