The leopards were found striding along the streets of Valparai for weeks now leaving the residents in panic.
Coimbatore: Despite the constant efforts of the Forest Department in Valparai, residents are still complaining about spotting leopards striding along streets for a few weeks now.
Cameras have recorded frequent sighting of leopards in Kamaraj Nagar, Kakkan Colony, Children's Park, Anna Nagar, MGR Nagar and Banana Plantation areas.
The elusive animals have thus far escaped from the forest department team which has been making every effort to capture the animals. Three leopards were reportedly spotted near the PHC in Gandhi Road, Valparai Bus stand. The video footage went viral on social media, causing fear among the public.
The Forest Department officials inspected the area since one of the leopards was captured on surveillance camera in the last few days near the Jewelry Shop Street in Valparai central,Post Office, Police Station, Telephone Exchange, Government Hospital, Higher Secondary School and Market Complexes between 10 pm to 3 am.
Assistant Conservator of Forests Prasanth IFS, Assistant Conservator of Forests Selvam at The Anamalai Tiger Reserve, Forest Dr. Manoharan, Ramesh, Tahsildar Raja, Regional Officer Jayachandran, Manikandan and several others are part of the inspection team.
