After remaining closed for 4 months, Mettupalayam- Ooty train service resumes today
Coimbatore: Ooty Mettupalayam Mountain Train resumed run today at 7.10 am, after remaining closed for 4 months due to the covid outbreak. Tourists throng Ooty as they were awaiting a break in this pandemic.
Mountain Railways in Nilgiris is an all-time favorite choice for tourists, be it within or outside of the country.
The train takes a long, thorough route through the lush green tea estates, dense forests, the rumbling waterfalls, bridges, scary, pitch-dark tunnels, summarising the whole of Nilgiris.
The trains stopped services last year at the outbreak of the first wave, insisted by the state and the central. However, the 130-year-old train services resumed during relaxations which were stopped once again (on 21.4.2021) as the second wave of the Pandemic emerged.
Salem Divisional Railway Administration had announced the services shall begin from September 6, 2021 between Mettupalayam and Ooty. Tourists rushed eagerly to travel on the train. The first train started at 7.10 am today.
UNESCO has declared Ooty Mountain Train as a World Heritage Site.
