Installation of automatic camera traps hasten in Manambally

In view of the Tiger census in Valparai, automatic cameras that capture tigers are being installed at ATR


Valparai: The Forest Department conducts a survey of wildlife twice every year, once in Summer and once during Winter. The reports of the number of tigers present in the forest ranges are sent to the NTCA every year.

The Anamalai Tiger Reserve forest range, (Valparai, Manambally, Ulandy, Topslip, Pollachi) is a home for wide range of wildlife like Tigers, Elephants, Bears, wild dogs. This year, tiger census will be carried out from 2nd to 26th of September by constructing straight line lines in the forest area of Manambally Forest Range.

Census has begun in 4 forest ranges including Pollachi.



According to the orders of the Pollachi Field Director, Anamalai Tiger Reserve, the tiger survey will be carried out for 25 days from 2nd to 26th of September 2021, at Valparai and Manambally as per the directions of the National Tiger Conservation Authority, (NTCA).

The data will be sent to the District Forest Office 25 days after the data is obtained and will be recorded every 8 days from the date of installation of the camera.



160 automatic camera traps are installed at 80 selected locations in Manambally Forest Range and tiger survey is being carried out.
