More than 40 families in Nagarajapuram petitioned the District Collector demanding immediate action should be taken against landowners who have been harassing them and preventing patta from being issued to them, as well as depriving basic facilities.
Coimbatore: Over 40 families living in Nagarajapuram, Coimbatore petitioned the District Collector, G S Sameeran seeking a bond and basic amenities.
These families are living in privately-owned land allotted to individuals for housing. The landowners in the neighbouring areas have reportedly barred these families from being provided with basic amenities, infrastructure and 'patta' till date, due to deliberate encroachment. The Vedapatti Panchayat Chief and a few other officials also highlighted that the water tank and solar light set up for 40 families could not be used because it was being prevented from being used by nearby landowners.
Though the families have petitioned the District Magistrate several times before about these challenges regarding their land and he had ordered the Vedapatti village authorities to issue the 'pattas,' the authorities were acting in favor of the land owners who were stalling time for various reasons.
Hence, the families met Coimbatore District Collector G S Sameeran and submitted a petition in one last attempt to offer hope for the people of Satya Nagar who are living without basic facilities. Further, the petition demanded for immediate action to be taken against those who have continued to harass them and also requested for the patta to be made available along with basic facilities.
