According to the Security Planning Officers, 415 children lost their parents of which 11 lost both the parents and 404 survive with a single parent.
The Centre had announced relief fund of ₹.5 lakh for the orphaned children. Following that, 46 children were provided the funds already and now the government has permitted to give 123 more children their funds.
The officers said, “So far, 415 children have been identified who lost their parents in Coimbatore district. In the first phase, applications of 284 children have been sent to Chennai who had the necessary documents. Documents are being collected for the rest.
Out of the 284, 8 who have lost both their parents and 38 who have lost their mother or father have been given relief funds. Relief funds were provided to the children who lost both their parents through the District Child Protection Scheme to their guardians.
And the funds for children who have lost either the mother or father is credited directly to their parents' bank account directly from the headquarters
