Old Bus stand in Valparai gets new life as an open bar

Passengers and social activists demand immediate action


Valparai:The old bus standlocated at the centre of Valparai in Coimbatore district is turning into an open bar and people in the area go through nuisance.

The buses that started from the old terminal were redirected to Gandhi Statue Complex and were operated from there due to increased traffic jams and overcrowding.

Buses were available from Pollachi, Coimbatore, Palani, Tirupur and Valparai Tea Plantation areas.

The buses now cover areas like Akkamalai, Karumalai, Balaji Temple, Vellamalai Topslip, and Kanchamalai between 7.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. The old bus stand, free of the crowd has become a hub for certain people who consume alcohol and litter the place. Also, the toilets emanate a foul smell due to lack of cleaning. Public who still use the bus stand goes through the nuisance.



The bus stand, under the control of The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, the Municipal Health Department is hesitant on taking steps.

Hence public and social activists have appealed to the State Transport Corporation administration to take steps to erect barriers and keep the bus stand clean to avoid trespassing.
